Our reeds are manufactured at the workshop at cupar by James Murray, and are suitable for most makes of pipe chanter. The reeds are variable in strength, easy, medium and strong.This is achieved by hand finishing the reeds and can be altered to suit different chanters and pitch. All the cane is selected by hand before manufacture to ensure a more consistent reed.Imported from Spain and France, we always have the best choice of cane and a good stock. Reeds can be supplied in small or large quantities at any time, this is due to our production set up. Reeds can easily be adjusted by the piper , by our tips on the 'how to page'.
The cane drone reeds , again are made in house, which gives us quality assurance.As with pipe chanter reeds, cane selection is crucial to the quality. This is a very important part of our reedmaking process. Our cane drone reeds have a rich, deep, resonating sound which can be suited to the modern pitch. The Vibratone drone reeds were developed and are manufactured by James Murray and Andrew Mathieson. Unique features on these reeds, is what sets them apart from other makes. e.g. The blade has no crease, which gives a constant vibration without weakening. The body of the reed is shaped to allow this. The pitch is adjusted by shortening and lengthening the reed by the means of a threaded stem,and a nut, to lock the reed at a desired pitch, which does not move. The optimum amount of air passes through the reed which makes this reed suitable for the novice , amatuer, professional band or solo piper.
